Bowling at Cabrillo Lanes

Posted in All, Podcast at 5:46 pm by Rodfather

So I finally bought my own bowling ball a few months back. I’m starting to get better. I wanted to film myself to try to analyze my approach and release.

From my post on the GR boards 6/08/2006 11:56PM:

I bowled a couple of games tonight. I did a lot better actually. My first game I bowled a 181 and the second game a 143.

I learned something tonight. I release the ball too early. The lanes I’m bowling on are known to be really dry, so I should release my ball at least a foot passed by lead foot so that my ball will break late.

I got to test out my cheap ass crappy hybrid camera too. It’s real bad in low light but you can tell what’s going on. The audio is a bit off too which is more of an issue, but at least I can see how my approach and release is now. Forgive my quick editing and ghetto titles.

It was fun.

Santa Cruz Japanese Cultural Fair

Posted in All, Podcast at 2:52 pm by Rodfather

I went to the Santa Cruz Japanese Cultural Fair yesterday.
Here’s the video in FLV using the On2 VP6 codec(High Quality) scaled down to 320×240:

I also just installed the plugin podpress. So now my blog will be iTunes compliant if I ever decide to submit this to their podcast directory. I’ve attached an iPod version of the video.

This is a video I made 6/10/06. I had just bought a cheapo Aiptek MPVR (DV6800) hybrid camera from Target for $88 and took some video to test it out.

I re-encoded it to FLV video using the On2 VP6 codec.

Streaming Video

I’m trying to figure out what’s the best way to store and deliver videos. It looks like flash video files might be the most simple solution since PC & Mac’s both have the flash player in the browser and doesn’t use up a ton of resources.
I don’t really like how the Riva encoder is encoding the videos though. It uses ffmpeg but still looks like crap.
Flash 8 suppose to be compatible with this On2 VP6 codec, but you need commercial applications like Flash MX to encode video with that codec. Browsing around, people are saying it’s better than h264.. Eh we’ll just have to see if I can get a copy of Flash MX.

Another option is using quicktime. I would assume most people have quicktime installed for Mac’s and PC’s. I really don’t like it but it may be good if I make this blog a video podcast through iTunes. I would be limiting myself to little 320×240 videos but the quality won’t be so bad with the h264 codec.
